PESHAWAR, Jan 17: NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani on Friday said the government had made up its mind to set up the Hasba institution in the province.

The Hasba Act will be drafted through a consultative process and the provincial assembly is expected to adopt it with consensus.

The chief minister said this at a meeting attended by Speaker Bakht Jehan Khan, Law Minister Malik Zafar Azam, Shariat Council chairman Mufti Ghulamur Rahman, Mufti Kifayatullah and MNA Attaur Rahman.

The chief minister has convened another meeting on Jan 22 to focus on the establishment of the Hasba institution. Six renowned scholars would also be invited to the meeting to seek their opinion on the formation of the institution.

The Hasba institution would be instrumental in bringing visible reforms to society as well as institutions at the provincial level. The indiscipline and disarray in various institutions and public life would be remedied, he said.

The meeting was told that the Hasba institution would create an environment leading to an in-built mechanism for the reformation of individual and collective life. "We would succeed in forming a society based on Islamic injunctions where rights of every one are secured and protected," the chief minister said. The enforcement of Shariat would be facilitated through Hasba institution, he added.

Mr Durrani said the MMA government had been under tremendous pressure from people to put the Hasba Act before the assembly and enforce the Islamic system of governance.

He said it was our ultimate desire and "we cannot afford delay in Islamization and establishment of Hasba institution". However, he added, it would be through democratic manner.

"We are democrats. We believe in decision making through democratic process," he said.
