PESHAWAR, Jan 17: An additional district and sessions judge, Shehbar Khan, on Saturday granted bail to a police officer accused of taking liquor during duty.
The court ordered that the accused, Faqir Muhammad, should be released after furnishing two sureties each of Rs1,00,000.
The accused was additional SHO of Bana Mari Police Station. A few days back, the chief capital city police (CCCP), Tanverul Haq Sipra, in a surprise visit to the police station found him intoxicated. His medical report also confirmed that he had taken liquor on duty.
The accused was suspended by the CCCP and an FIR was registered against him at Bana Mari police station.
Earlier, his bail application was rejected by a judicial magistrate Asghar Ali Shah following which he filed an application before the court of additional district and sessions judge.
Advocate Muhammad Habib Qureshi appeared for the accused and contended that he was charged with a bailable offence and was entitled to be released on bail.
