Karachi, Jan 3: Top seed Khalid Atlas Khan began his campaign in the under-19 event of the British Junior Open Squash Championships with an impressive straight games victory over Columbia's Jorge Quintro in Sheffield on Friday.
According to results of the opening round, made available on Saturday, Peshawar-born Khalid faced little problems in ousting Quintro 9-0,9-2,9-4 to move into the second round..
Khalid, a nephew of former world champion Jansher Khan, is the favourite to win the under-19 crown known as the Drysdale Cup, the most coveted title on the international junior squash circuit.
The 2004 British Junior Squash Championship started at Sheffield, England on Friday. Pakistani players are taking part in the boys U-13, U-15, U-17 and U-19 age group events of the championship.
Apart from Khalid, several other Pakistanis also cruised into the next stage of the tournament.
Aqib Hanif also reached the under-19 second round by beating Harry Lietch Scotland 9/4,9/6,9/6.
In the under-17 event, defending champion Farhan Mahboob made short work of Jonathon Fuller of England 9/1,9/5,9/5. Bilal Zaman was also in the second round with a straight forward victory over England's Oliber Harding.
Adnan Khan faced little problems in ousting local boy Jack Grayston in the opening round of the boys under-15 event. Also to reach the second round of the competition from Pakistan were Amir Atlas and Shoaib Hassan who both recorded straight games wins over their English opponents.
Pakistanis were also dominant in the boys under-13 event in which four boys from the country - Sheikh Saqib, Waqar Mahboob, Danish Atlas and Asif Khan - reached the second round.
