LAHORE, April 24: Five-year-old bay English mare, Laser Lass won in grand style the Royal Ascot Cup run over 1400m during the Lahore Winter Meeting at the Racecourse on Sunday. Laser Lass, a progeny of Ali Royal out-of-Lingdale Lass, ridden by jockey Aamar Parvaiz, came up with a fantastic finish to win by two impressive lengths from blue-roan English mare Gortalocha.

The 60 to 100 favourite bay colt Brummell finished third, another two lengths behind while chestnut English mare Repatorie completed the frame, half-a-length further back.

In all, only seven ran for the important event carrying a purse of rupees 187,500 alongwith a crystal cup, named after the Famous Royal Ascot of London.

Laser Lass clocked one min 24 1/5 secs over 1400m , equalling the record set up by her stablemate, Al Hattab over the same distance on Oct 3, last year.

Trained by Mubarik Ali, Laser Lass is owned by an industrialist owner, who prefers to keep his horses under a pseudo ownership.
