KARACHI, April 23: The Sindh government has planned expansion of the Chief Minister’s House extending its limits to certain old structures and open places adjacent to it. Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim on Friday visited the Old Commissioner House and other pre-partition buildings adjoining the CM’s House to take a decision with regard to the expansion plan.

Accompanied by Chief Secretary Mohammad Aslam Sanjrani and DCO Fazlur Rehman, who has set up his camp office at the Old Commissioner Office, the chief minister inspected all the structures housing the District Zakat Committee office and residential quarters.

Principal Secretary to the CM Sikandar Keeryo, Special Secretary Dr Mohammad Ali and Political Secretary Abdul Ghaffar Qureshi were also present on the occasion.

After the inspection, it was decided that construction and shifting of the chief minister’s new office would be linked to the expansion plan. The old stone structure built in British era would not be demolished, rather, its original form would be preserved, it was decided.

The chief minister directed the DCO to chalk out estimates with regard to the expansion plan and repair and renovation of the historical building of the Old Commissioner House and office.

According to the CM’s House officials, the expansion plan also includes construction of flats for the low-grade staff of the CM’s House on the site of the old residential quarters in the vicinity.

If needed, the limits of the CM’s House could be extended up to the Old Commissioner House and office, they added.—PPI
