Two killers get life term, fine

FAISALABAD, April 20: Additional District and Sessions Judge Syed Najmul Hasan Bukhari on Wednesday awarded life imprisonment with a fine of Rs100,000 to two killers. According to the prosecution, Rao Shamsher Ali, Ali Shaharyar and Muhammad Saleem gunned down one Shakir Ali in Chak 37-JB in Thikriwala police limits on June 19, 2000.

After four-year trial, the court awarded life imprisonment with a fine of Rs100,000 to Ali Shaharyar and Saleem, nephews of Federal Defence Minister Rao Sikandar Iqbal. Rao Shamsher had expired during the trial.

Shakir was killed for pursuing a gang-rape case registered against Wajid, Nasir and Hamid who were brothers of Rao Shamsher Ali.

RELEASED: Former PML-N MNA Mian Abdul Mannan was released on Wednesday from the local jail after the acceptance of his bail application by the Anti-Terrorism Court.

He was rounded up by the local police when he was going to his office in Madina Town on April 5, for allegedly forcing traders to observe shutdown strike on the call of MMA on April 2.

The court accepted the bail application of Mian Mannan and ordered his release against a surety bond of Rs200,000.

Meanwhile, the ATC also accepted the bail application of MMA district president Sardar Zafar Husain and seven other activists who had been arrested on April 2.
