KABUL, April 18: The US troops have detained 24 suspected Taliban militants in Afghanistan’s south-eastern province of Khost, bordering Pakistan, according to the provincial governor. The men were picked up during a Sunday night raid by the US troops backed by helicopters in Khost’s remote Ali Sher district, the governor, Mirajuddin Patan, told Reuters on Monday.
He did not know if any prominent Taliban member was among those arrested, but said the local officials had urged the US forces to coordinate such raids with the provincial authorities.
Villagers have in the past complained of heavy-handed US tactics.
