PESHAWAR, April 16: Six robbers in police uniform have looted the house of an irrigation department official in Pubbi town.

Sources said that six people in police uniform entered the house of a draughtsman of the irrigation department, Mehrdil Khan, on Thursday night and made the family hostage at gunpoint.

They collected 32 tolas of gold ornaments, Rs120,000 in cash, prize bonds worth Rs30,000 and other valuables.

Meanwhile, the Peshawar University police on Friday arrested two drug-pushers who were planning to hand over four bottles of liquor and one kilogram of hashish to their clients, the sources said.

The campus police had launched a campaign against rising trend of narcotics use in the university.

Those arrested included Sharbat Khan and Lal Mohammad, both residents of Jamrud tehsil of the Khyber Agency.

Separately, the Capital City Police had asked cinema owners to shut down their business centres on the 12th of Rabiul Awaal.

According to an official statement, the cinema owners were also directed to remove billboards as a mark of respect on the birthday of Hazrat Mohammad (Peace be upon him).
