PESHAWAR, April 16: Ambassador of Thailand Pisanu Chanvitan has said that the NWFP has a potential to attract foreign tourists as it has several historical places and its people are hospitable.

He called on the NWFP Governor Khalilur Rehman at Governor’s House here on Friday, where he said that his country was interested in promoting tourism in the region.

Pakistan as a whole and the NWFP in particular had vast potentials of tourism that could be exploited, Mr Pisanu said, adding that the basic purpose of his visit to the NWFP was to explore tourism opportunities in the province.

He said that he had visited different places in the province and was highly impressed by hospitality and tourist-friendly attitude of the local people.

A number of tourist groups from Thailand were on their way to Pakistan and they would pay detailed visits to NWFP, he said.

Endorsed the views of the Thai ambassador, the governor said that there were several archaeological sites of the Gandahara Civilisation in the province which could attract tourists and help boost economy of the province.

He added that flora and fauna of the province had a lot of potential not only in the field of tourism but also in other sectors, including agriculture and horticulture.

He said that tourist-friendly atmosphere prevailed in the province, particularly in the areas which were famous for natural beauty, and tourists would feel comfortable while visiting the places.
