ISLAMABAD, April 14: Talha Iftikhar of Government College University Lahore roared to sprint glory on Thursday streaking to gold in the 100m final of the second University Games at the Jinnah Stadium. Quick off the blocks, Talha was home in 10.7 sec finishing ahead of Punjab University’s Saqib Nawaz and University of Peshawar’s Muhammad Ali.

University of Peshawar athletes finished on top in the track and field events with a total of 127 points as they bagged a total of 17 medals.

In the team event of the men’s tennis competition, Punjab and Bahauddin Zakariya Universities qualified for the finals after picking up easy semifinal victories.

Punjab duo of Afnan Nasir and Masood Ahmed outplayed their rivals Sarmad Hussain and Sarfraz Ahmed of Islamia University Bahawalpur in their respective singles matches.

Imran Rasool and Fawad Pirzada of Multan knocked out Athar Altfat and Mudassir Anis of Karachi University respectively in their singles clashes.
