ISLAMABAD, April 14: The National Assembly Standing Committee on Education has recommended that the Higher Education Commission (HEC) may take necessary steps to ensure that substandard educational institutions are not recognized and legislation in this regard, if so required, may be proposed by the commission to the committee. According to the National Assembly Secretariat, the committee made this recommendation during its meeting held at the parliament house on Thursday with Begum Tehmina Dasti in the chair.

The committee was of the view that the HEC may undertake a campaign to create awareness among the masses of differentiating between the standard and substandard institutions.

The HEC chairman, Dr Attaur Rehman, briefed the committee on the human resource development efforts made by the commission.

The committee appreciated the performance of the commission during the last few years and expressed the hope that the commission will continue its efforts to develop quality human talent in the country.

The meeting resolved that all members of the committee should gear up their efforts for the promotion of education keeping aside their political affiliations.

The meeting was attended by MNAs Begum Zeb Gohar Ayub, Prof Aasiya Azeem, Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada, Prof Khalid Wahab, Aisha Munawar, Shakeela Khanum Rashid and Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho.
