Poisonous water claims five lives

LARKANA, April 11: At least five villagers died of diarrhoea and dozens of others were admitted to the Chandka Medical College Hospital (CMCH) with abdominal cramps after they had consumed poisonous water in three villages of Warah area on Sunday night. People belonging to Mirzapur Gadhi, Gaji Bakhsh Chandio and Manjhi Khan Chandio villages in the Kachho area after drinking the poisonous water developed severe diarrhoea and started vomiting.

Those who died were: Moomal, 5, daughter of Shaman; Sadoori, 25; Rehana, 3; Manjhi Gadhi and Aasiyat Chandio, 35.

Sources said at least 103 villagers were taken to the Warah Taluka Hospital and later shifted to the CMCH.

However, sources at the CMCH said 59 villagers suffering from diarrhoea had reported there. The villagers used to fetch the water from the Hamal Lake.
