NAB moves to relieve Faisal

Published April 10, 2005

LAHORE, April 9: The NAB prosecutor-general on Saturday submitted before an accountability court a consent for withdrawal of a reference against Federal Minister Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat.

The court reserved its judgment on the application moved on behalf of the NAB chairman, saying that the bureau wanted to withdraw the charges contained in the reference against Mr Hayat.

The court summoned Mr Hayat on April 12 when it would announce a decision on the application.

The NAB lawyer submitted that the minister had reached an agreement with the creditor bank on the refund of the loan.

The agreement was approved by the State Bank and its conciliation committee had submitted a report to the NAB chairman, saying that the dispute of the bank loan stood settled and the charges of wilful default against the minister and seven other directors of the company should be withdrawn.
