Shamyl and Fucci on target

LAHORE, April 5: Lahore Chatkhara won the opening match of the President of Pakistan trophy polo tournament against WAK Group 9 1/2-6 by virtue of a 3 1/2 goal handicap at the Lahore Polo Club ground on Tuesday.

The match started at a fast pace as Ganzalo Fucci of Argentina opened the account for LC by scoring a field goal in the first chukker. Shah Shamyl Alam doubled the lead through another field goal.

Pablo Jauretche of WAK Group and Chris Hyde equalized the score on a 40-yard penalty in the same chukker 2-2.

Fucci again put Lahore Chatkhara ahead in the second chukker when he crowned a solo effort. Hyde put both teams on equal terms by converting a 60-yard penalty.

The third chukker saw both teams fighting it out in the middle of the field. However, Hyde of WAK Group converted a 60-yard penalty to put his side 4-3 ahead.

Fourth chukker was dominated by LC as after conceding a goal at the beginning. Jauretche of WAK Group increased the lead to 5-3 through a field goal.

After that, Fucci, Shamyl and Qubilai struck one each to put Lahore Chatkhara in 6-5 lead. Qubilai’s goal was a treat to watch as he crowned a solo effort.

In the fifth chukker, Hyde was the only scorer who converted a 30-yard penalty and put both the teams on even keel at 6-6.

Nacho Gonzaloz and Jamie le Hardy supervised the match.
