KARACHI, April 3: A portion of Gulshan-i-Iqbal?s Block 4-A (Journalists? Society) continues to be supplied contaminated water for more than a month, leaving no choice for the residents of the affected houses but to purchase private tankers at exorbitant rates. Residents of the affected houses complained that although more than a month had elapsed since they first brought the issue of contaminated water into the knowledge of the KWSB officials concerned, none of them had, so far, been able to get the fault responsible for filthy water rectified.

A resident of house no B-1, Gulshan-i-Iqbal?s Block 4-A, deplored that whenever residents of the affected houses pursued the matter with the KWSB officials, some labourers, who were sent to the locality for tracing the fault, started digging work and left the portion unattended for days.

?In fact, digging works was going on with intervals for the last one week or so but we are still being supplied contaminated water?, he added.

He said that the residents of the affected houses in the absence of piped water had already spent thousands of rupees on private water tankers and it seemed that they would continue to do so for a longer period as the work for tracing the fault was going on at a very slow pace.

SHORTAGE: Complaints of persisting water shortage continues to be pouring in newspaper offices from different parts of the city.

Most of such complaints have been received from Kharadar, Mithadar, Mehmoodabad, Akhtar Colony, Gulshan-i-Iqbal?s block 13-D/1 and 13-D/2, Ranchorre Line, Haquani Chowk and parts of Lyari.

Residents of the affected areas complained that although acute water shortage had become a matter of routine in their localities, the KWSB officials concerned had not yet taken measures to restore normal supply despite a number of complaints had been lodged with them.
