PESHAWAR, April 1: The Peshawar district public prosecutor has asked the local police to follow the recent amendments made in the Criminal Procedure Code regarding cases of blasphemy and adultery. The district public prosecutor, Sikander Sahibzada, has issued a circular to the chief of the Capital City Police asking him to circulate the same among the investigation agencies for lawful investigation.

In the said circular, the prosecutor has mentioned the recently inserted sections 156A and 156B of the CrPC. Under the Prosecution Services Act, the district public prosecutor is empowered to keep an eye on the investigation on different cases. Earlier, he had issued directives to the district police for checking the misuse of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997.

The parliament had passed the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, 2005. Through the said Act various amendments were made in the Pakistan Penal Code and the CrPC for checking honour-related murders and misuse of the Blasphemy Law and the Offence of Zina (Enforcement of Hudood) Ordinance, 1979.
