BAHAWALPUR, March 31: The district administration claimed on Thursday to have made arrangements to ensure failure of the MMA’s wheel-jam strike on April 2. The administration has assured shopkeepers and transporters of complete security. A delegation of the Markazi Anjuman-i-Tajran, led by central president Siraj Badr, and a transporters’ delegation, headed by Transport Federation Divisional President Chaudhry Sohail Ashraf Warriach, called on DPO Arif Nawaz and offered cooperation to the government if it ensured proper security during the strike.

The traders said they would keep their shops open only when the government provided them a sound security cover. The transporters put forward the same demand for plying their vehicles on inter-city routes. The DPO assured them of all possible help.

The DPO also presided over a meeting of police officials and discussed ways to thwart the strike.

FAISALABAD: The TMA (city) rejected the strike call given by the MMA calling it unjustified.

During a session held here with convener Ilyas Ansari in the chair on Thursday, Tehsil Nazim Mumtaz Ali Cheema, in a resolution, said the call was aimed at creating law and order situation, adding that people should reject it. The house approved the resolution with majority, demanding that police should make appropriate arrangements to protect the life and property of people.

The Nazim asked the TMA members to try their best to thwart the strike.
