LAHORE, March 31: Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi has directed Law Minister Raja Basharat to devise a mechanism to ensure that all appointments in future are made on merit, sources say. Once a methodology is evolved, the ban on appointments in government departments will be lifted. The chief minister had imposed the ban a few days ago after he noticed that the merit was not being followed. The sources said after the current Punjab Assembly session Raja Basharat would hold meetings with the ministers and secretaries of all departments to elicit their views on transparent and merit-based appointments. —Staff Reporter
