KARACHI, March 26: A two-member delegation of Asian Football Confederation (AFC) arrived on Saturday from Kuala Lumpur to inspect facilities for holding inaugural AFC President’s Cup at People’s Sports Complex.

The AFC officials who reached here are Indren Rasasingam and Imtiazur Rehman. The AFC President’s Cup is scheduled to be held from May 4 to 14.

Rasasingam, the director security AFC said that the basic purpose of their visit was to allocate the event to Pakistan. “That will boost the game in this country,” he maintained.

However, he said they will only decide and finalize the venue after thoroughly inspecting the facilities. “If facilities are adequate and up to the mark, Pakistan has a good chance to host the eight-team competition,” AFC official said.

“AFC is fully sponsoring the event and its will cost over a quarter of a million US dollars,” he said.

He said after visit to Pakistan, they will be flying to Kathmandu on their next leg to inspect the facilities.

“After inspecting all kinds of facilities we will submit the report to AFC which is the final authority to decide the host country,” he added.

After arriving here, the AFC delegation held meeting with the officials of Sindh Football Association about their visit to main ground and practice grounds.

During their stay in the city they will be visiting the proposed venue of People’s Sports Complex besides looking at the practice grounds like Aga Khan Gymkhana, Defence Football Stadium, CDG Stadium and Aga Khan University.—APP
