KARACHI, March 23: Young Hussain Patel, leading from day one, held on to beat his best friend and fierce rival Waleed Tobeh by one penalty point, after the First Pakistan Day International Regatta concluded on Wednesday at the Marina Club.

A total of 10 races were held out of which two discards were allowed.

Adil Jalil Zuberi trailing Hussain and Waleed from the opening day had to be satisfied with the third spot accumulating 21 PP.

For the young ladies participating in the Optimist Class, the tough competition continued between the two sisters Ujala Mir Masood and Ghazal Mir Masood, with Ujala finally overcoming her younger sister, who is the presently the Ladies Optimist champion by two penalty points.

Ujala collected 30 PP to Ghazal’s 32, with their proud parents enjoying every minute of the sister’s keen rivalry on the sea.

Maria Sehr, also gave a good account of herself finishing third with 45 PP.

Wajahatullah Babur maintaining his top position from first day, won the Laser 4.7 event collecting only 10PP. Mir Ahmed Mansoor with 13PP was a close second and Kiran Ikram, unfortunate to be disqualified after winning her opening race, a brave third with 14PP.

Out of the four Sri Lankan sailors who participated in the Optimist event, Ishan Kavan Abeyseekera finished fifth with 32 PP, Viren Harindra Dias seventh with 38PP, Amrik Sacha Elapata Gunaratne ninth with 58PP and Nishan Wijetilaka Atukorala 11th with 69PP.

However the youngsters from Sri Lanka thoroughly enjoyed themselves on the Arabian Sea which will undoubtly give them further encouragement to make improvements.

The Sindh Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Qamar Mansoor, was the chief guest and presented the medals to the winners.

Laser 4.7 Wajahatullah Babur 10PP 1, Mir Mohammad Mansoor 13PP 2, Kiran Ikram 14PP 3, Mohammad Umer Ahmed 28PP 4, Huzaifa Farooqi 43 PP 5, Ali Akbar 49PP 6.

Optimist Boys: Hussain Patel 9PP 1, Waleed Tobeh 10PP 2, Adil Jalil Zuberi 21PP 3.

Optimist Girls: Ujala Mir Masood 30PP 1, Ghazal Mir Masood 32 PP 2, Maria Sehr 45 PP 3.
