PESHAWAR, March 23: To mobilize people regarding female literacy, National Education Foundation, Islamabad, in collaboration with UNESCO organized a day-long consultative workshop entitled “Advocacy Intervention in Support of Girls Education”, at a local hotel on Tuesday.

The workshop was attended by the members of public and private sectors organizations working in Fata and other areas for promoting awareness regarding girls’ education and elimination of gender disparities.

The workshop participants pointed out many hurdles in the way of women’s education. They said unawareness, social constraints, hostile attitude towards women lib and poverty are the main obstacles in promotion of female education.

Highlighting the achievements of National Education Foundation, regional coordinator Fata, Ulfat Tasleem, said that 500 community schools had been operating in Fata, Fana and AJK through public and private ownership.

She said that 419 schools out of 500 were working only in Fata to promote literacy rate in the area. She said that 51,000 children have been enrolled in all community schools while specifically 33,863 children were studying in Fata community schools with 40 per cent participation of females.

She added that 967 teachers were busy in teaching them. For each project they had a separate monitoring and evolution system, she said.
