KARACHI, March 22: Sindh Health Adviser Faisal Malik has urged the World Health Organization to devise a monitoring system minus the representatives of district government for its ongoing projects in the province.

Mr Faisal said that a system based on the resources of health organization, envisaging surprise inspections of projects, would help knowing the real performance of the district government’s health staff.

He was talking to a four-member delegation of the WHO and the World Bank, which called him at his office on Tuesday.

The adviser asked the representatives of the international agencies not to contact the representatives of the health department at district government bypassing the provincial government as this would not help achieving the required positive results, said a communique.

He told the delegation that the Sindh health department was making sincere efforts with the cooperation of the international organizations to provide standard health facilities to people at their doorsteps in rural and urban areas, which had also started yielding positive results.

The present government had been monitoring and reviewing its programmes with the objective to get the target fulfilled within the stipulated period, he added, saying that the international bodies should monitor the health projects directly instead of relying on district government’s representatives, and report to him so that the development on ground could be assessed.

He also apprised the delegation of the nature of demands and facilities in the health sector of the province and efforts of the government for improvement of health units and supply of medicines.
