KARACHI, May 30: Sindh Governor Mohammedmian Soomro presided over a high-level meeting on Thursday to review reconstruction of Department of Communication & Works, under devolution plan and discussed future projects.

The meeting was attended by Sindh Minister for Communication & Works, Syed Ali Mir Shah, Chief Secretary Javed Ashraf Hussain, Principal Secretary Brig. Akhter Zamin, Additional Chief Secretary Shahzado Shaikh, Secretary Finance Fazlur Rehman, Secretary Local Bodies Qamar Zaman and other officials.

Secretary Communication, Hafizur Rehman briefed the meeting in detail about reconstruction and development projects. The governor lauded the efforts of his department to transfer of power to district governments under devolution plan. He also stressed the need for maintenance of roads and buildings regularly.

He advised that standard be maintained from the time of construction to keep repair and renovation expenditure at minimum level, including electricity, telephone, wiring, water and sewerage systems.

Secretary Communications Hafizur Rehman informed the meeting that 369 posts have been abolished under reconstruction programme and intra district road networks have since been handed over to district governments whereas inter-district road networks would remain with provincial government.

Roads under construction would be completed by his department and would be handed to district governments later.

The chief secretary stressed the need for addition of floors to the Sindh secretariat building. Construction of offices with modern facilities to replace barracks and improvement of residential facilities of government servants were also considered in the meeting.

The governor instructed to consider taking over of pending project of Hayat Regency by the provincial government.—PPI
