KARACHI, March 19: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad said on Saturday that the government was giving equal attention to development of urban and rural areas of the province. In the past, he said, governments used to discriminate between urban and rural areas but development activities were neither carried out in cities, nor in rural areas of the province,” he told the participants of Gunnery Staff Course who called on him at Governor House along with their commandant.

Sindh Home Minister Rauf Siddiqui, Advisor on Local Government Waseem Akhtar and other officials were also present. The governor deplored that several former Sindh chief ministers and prime ministers were elected from interior districts of the province, but unfortunately, there was no development even in their own areas.

The governor said that steps were being taken to curb menace of street crimes. “One of the basic factor behind growing ratio of street crimes is poor socio-economic conditions and this regard, several programmes have been launched for an improvement in social and economic sectors,” he told the visiting delegation.

Replying to queries regarding law and order situation, he said owing to hectic efforts by the administration, both Eids and Moharram remained peaceful, and no untoward incident took place, while no incident of hide-snatching occurred on Eid.—PPI
