LAHORE, March 18: Mohammad Munir of Islamabad led the professionals’ field in the eighth Faysal Bank Open Golf tournament which began at the Lahore Gymkhana course on Friday. Fresh from his victory in Bahawalpur, Munir finished the first round at 6-under-par 66.

He birdied on holes 1, 5, 6, 7, 10 and 11 and dropped no shot during the day.

One stroke behind him was Shafique Masih (33-34) with birdies on 5, 6, 8, 11, 15, 16 and 17.

Munir bogied the first hole while finished the 12th hole at par 3. Matloob Ahmad of Gymkhana finished at 68 (33-35).

He sank birdies on holes 5, 6, 9 and 12 with a dropped shot on the very first hole.

Latif Masih of Gymkhana and Ansar Mahmood of Islamabad shared the fourth spot at identical 69.

They were followed by Shabbir Iqbal and Mohammad Tahir at 70 and a stroke behind were M. Sajid and Imdad Husain.

In the amateur gross section, Sameer Iftikhar of Gymkhana, a 3 handicapper, was at 75.

The second place was shared by Amir Mahmood, Shafique Bhatti, Mohammad Safdar and Omer Salamat at 76.
