NAWABSHAH, March 18: A 40-feet-wide breach occurred between the RD-31 and 32 of the Malwah branch near Qazi Ahmed town on Friday. Mitho Jokhio village and crop of wheat, sugarcane and rice over 500 acres were badly affected. The breach was plugged after a few hours by villagers and officials of the irrigation department. The SDO of the Dad irrigation division denied that any breach had occurred in Malwah. He said there was some overflow from the canal which had now been controlled. This was stated by Ghazi Salahuddin, a former student leader, while speaking at late Jamaluddin Bhatti award ceremony at the Nawabshah press club on Thursday.

He said all the institutions of the country were almost destroyed and journalism was the only ray of hope.

Dr Ghulam Sarwar Jamali, Bux Ali Jamali, Allah Bux Lakho and Sajan Sindhi also spoke on the occasion. Awards were given to the people from different fields including journalism, education and medicine.

They include Prof Mir Abdul Rasool, Prof Mohammad Bux Baloch, Prof Abdul Malik Lakhmir, Bux Ali Jamali, Fida Chandio, Ali Mohammad Shah, Zulfiqar Memon, Atif Hussain Zaidi, Khalid Farooqui, Ismail Domki, Kamran Abro, Dr Shams Shaikh and Sajan Sindhi.

BOOKED: Forest officer Yousuf Chandio lodged an FIR against ten people for illegally occupying the forest land in the Sukhpur forest.
