Omar Kureishi laid to rest

KARACHI, March 15: Eminent sports writer, cricket commentator and Dawn columnist Omar Kureishi, who died on Monday, was laid to rest at the Gizri Graveyard here on Tuesday.

The funeral prayers were attended by his son Javed Kureishi, relatives, senior journalists, friends and a large number of admirers, including former Sindh Governor Fakhruddin G. Ebrahim, former Pakistan cricket captains Hanif Muhammad, Mushtaq Muhammad and Wasim Bari, former chief selector Hasib Ahsan, , former hockey captain Islahuddin Siddiqui, Cricket commentators Chishty Mujahid and Munir Hussain, and Pakistan Cricket Board general manager Zakir Khan. A floral wreath was placed on his grave on behalf of the PIA management.

The soyem and Quran Khawani will be held at Tariq Masjid, Naval Housing Scheme, behind Mideast Hospital, on Wednesday between Asr and Maghrib prayers.—Agencies
