Truckers

DERA GHAZI KHAN, March 15: Truck drivers blocked traffic on the inter-provincial Dera-Quetta Road to register their protest against a vehicle tax imposed by the Tehsil Municipal Administration.

However, Tehsil Nazim Asim Zubair Khosa had to withdraw the tax after visualizing the gravity of the situation.

Reports said traffic remained suspended for several hours on the highway near Gaddai where the truck drivers halted their vehicles.

The situation panicked passengers, who were making for Balochistan or coming to the district. Police failed to make the protesters disperse even after a few hours.

A transporter, Qasim Qaisrani, told this correspondent that the tax was illegal as it was cancelled by a local court two years ago.

He accused the tehsil Nazim of committing contempt of court by imposing tax.

As the Urs of Hazrat Sakhi Sarwar is going on these days, hundreds of people coming towards the shrine faced a great deal of inconvenience because of blockade.
