ISLAMABAD, March 14: The Special Committee of Parliament on Kashmir has urged the World Bank (WB) to appoint neutral experts soon to resolve the issue of Baglihar dam.

The committee met here on Monday and discussed the matter in detail.

It expressed concern over the delaying tactics adopted by India and advised the ministries of foreign affairs and water and power to have a pro-active approach to get the issue resolved within the treaty provisions at the earliest.

The committee directed the two ministries to effectively counter the argument put forth by India for constructing the dam.

There was a consensus at the meeting that the Indus Water Treaty must be implemented in its true spirit.

The foreign secretary assured the committee that the Foreign Office and the ministry of water and power would brief all diplomats proceeding abroad on diplomatic assignments on the Kashmir issue.

Earlier, secretaries of the two ministries and Commissioner Indus Water updated the committee on the major projects being undertaken by India on the western rivers including Baglihar, Kishan Ganga and Wuller Barrage.

The meeting was attended by Federal Ministers Rao Sikandar Iqbal, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, Muhammad Ijaz-ul-Haq; Ministers of State Zahid Hamid Khan, Malik Amin Aslam Khan, Anisa Zeb Tahirkheli, Mir Muhammad Naseer Mengal; MNAs Liaquat Baloch, Mrs Zeb Gohar Ayub, Sardar Talib Hassan Nakai, Prof Mushtaq Victor, Imtiaz Safdar Warriach, Haji Gul Muhammad Dummar, Amjad Ali Warriach, Nawab Asmanullah Khan; Senators Wasim Sajjad, Mushahid Hussain Sayed, Mouhim Khan Baloch, Prof Muhammad Saeed Siddiqui, Waqar Ahmed Khan, Prof Khurshed Ahmed, Muhammad Aslam Buledi and Mrs Rukhsana Zuberi. —APP
