BAHAWALPUR, March 10: The first-ever desert jeep rally will touch the remains of the four historic forts in Cholistan on March 16 and 17.

Information gleaned by Dawn revealed that the participants would go round the historic Derawar, Nawakot, Bijnot and Khangarh forts. The remains of Derawar Fort are more visible than the other three forts, which crumbled during the past years.

Both rallies of day and night covering a distance of 220kms and 160kms, respectively, will pass through the remains of the forts.

EDO (Finance) Dr Raheel Siddiqui, who is in charge of the rally, told this correspondent on Thursday that 56 participants had got themselves registered with the TDCP and district government for rally. He said more entries were expected on Thursday — the last date.

He said the rally route would have 12 check points linked with wireless communication. Within these points, he said, another six points would be set up to provide medical cover. These would have ambulances and recovery

vehicles.

Besides, he said, four mobile check points were being set up having the facility of satellite phones.

The result would be finalized on March 17 after calculation of points, he added.

GOLF: The All-Punjab Golf Championship will be held at the local club from March 11 to 13.
