LAHORE, March 7: Fine half-century by Kanwal Naz helped Karachi win the first National women cricket championship beating Lahore by six wickets in the final at the Qadhafi Stadium on Monday.

Set 217 for victory, Kanwal scored 54 runs with six fours as Karachi achieved the target in 34.1 overs. The extras accounted for 50 runs also helped the visitors to overhaul the target easily. Arman Khan was the other chief contributor with 22-ball 37, five fours and two sixes.

Karachi's skipper Humaira Masoor also scored 33 runs with four fours, before she was adjudged leg before wicket off Lahore's captain Taskeen Qadeer. Humaira and Kanwal had added 89 runs in the second wicket partnership.

Earlier, Lahore scored 216 for three in the allotted 40 overs due to a fine opening stand of 138 runs by Sana Javed and Tasqeen. Sana scored 60 with nine fours while she faced 94 balls. Tasqeen scored 59 hitting 10 strokes to the fence.

She negotiated 75 balls. Shamsa Hashmi, the top scorer of the championship, remained unbeaten on 45. She cracked five fours and faced 51 balls. Shamsha scored 155 runs in the championship. Kanwal Naz of Karachi was declared Woman-of-the-Final.
