ISLAMABAD, March 3: Acting parliamentary leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has said the party is determined to eliminate dictatorship from the country and there is a very clear party guideline and policy in this regard.

"We are very clear, committed and steadfast in our resolve to remove the last vestiges of dictatorship," Chaudhry Nisar said in response to the allegations levelled by his party colleague in the National Assembly Khwaja Saad Rafiq that he (Nisar) was busy in reconciliation efforts with the present rulers.

Mr Rafiq had also alleged that Chaudhry Nisar was responsible for a division in the party among those, who wanted to continue struggle against the regime and those who wanted to reconcile with the rulers.

Talking to Dawn here on Thursday, Chaudhry Nisar said some people wanted to vent their frustration, but it would ultimately harm the party. Under no circumstances, he said, he would be a party to any scheme of things, which any way would harm the party.

The PML-N leader said he had left the matter on the party and its chief Nawaz Sharif. "I will not speak (on the issue). Let the party decide and speak on the issue itself," Mr Nisar said. He expressed the hope that the matter would be resolved in a couple of days.

"If what has been stated is true, then it can be corroborated by the party and, more so, by Nawaz Sharif himself", Mr Nisar said referring to Mr Rafiq's allegations.

Without naming Saad Rafiq, he said, "A man has taken the party's internal matters to the public and made the party a laughing stock before the people. I will not dignify him or his statements by giving a response. Moreover, I do not believe that anybody having the remotest commitment and affiliation to the party and its leadership can go to town washing the party's linen in public," he said.

He was of the view that the party would gain nothing through this and it would come out weaker? "I will not do or say anything which will weaken my party. If I will have to do something, I will do it only after getting clearance from Nawaz Sharif," Chaudhry Nisar added.

When asked whether he had presented any specific formula before the party men regarding reconciliation, Chaudhry Nisar said he had been following the party guidelines and there was absolutely no doubt or confusion as to how the party should move forward.

Meanwhile, PML-N secretary-general Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, in a statement, denied existence of any factional fight or conflict among leadership of the party.
