BAHAWALPUR, March 1: People from all walks of life, including traders, have resented the fresh increase in the prices of petroleum products.

Launching a protest in Bahawalpur on Tuesday, the generality of people and transporters attributed the raise to the poor government policies.

They said the government's claims of the revival of economy were false, as prices of essential commodities shot up due to increase in petroleum prices during the last few months.

Some people complained that drivers of public transports, including rickshaws and taxis, had started charging high fare. Transporters also dropped a hint that they would increase the fare of buses, wagons and AC coaches running on all the intra- and inter-city routes.

GUJRANWALA: The Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry and citizens protested against the government for increasing prices of petroleum products twice within a month.

Speaking at a meeting presided over by chamber president Asad Elahi, the participants expressed their resentment over what, they said, defective government policies. They said the decision would lead to enhancement of rates of several products due to which the traders could note compete in the international market. They demanded that the fresh increase in the prices of POL products should be withdrawn immediately.

SIALKOT: The people of Sialkot, like in other parts of the Punjab, did not lag behind in raising hue and cry against the decision. The district's prominent trade bodies, including the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry, apprehend that increase in POL product prices will hamper exports.

Talking to newsman, Pakistan Ready-made Manufacturers and Exporters Association chairman Ijaz A. Khokhar, SCCI chief Qaisar Saleem Shabir, Surgical Instruments Manufacturers Association of Pakistan chairman Chaudhry Muhammad Ikram and others said it was a burden on the common citizens.
