KARACHI, Feb 27: Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association (SPLA) Karachi in a meeting here on Sunday drew the attention of Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad towards the Sindh High Court's ruling and urged him to appoint on-duty officers of educational cadre at education boards.

The meeting presided over by Prof Syed Riaz Ahsan lauded the Sindh High Court's decision to remove EDO Education Karachi Ijaz Ali Khan, an officer of the DMG and assign any officer serving in education institution for the vacant post.

The participants of the meeting drew attention of the concerned authorities towards misappropriations in the appointment of educational officers. In this regard, they mentioned, the chairman of the Board of Secondary Education Karachi, Brig (retd) Safeehullah, had no roots in educational faculty.

They said that education officers including Chairman of Board of Intermediate Education Iftikar Hussain Zaidi, Chairman of Hyderabad Board Sultan Abbas, Chairman of Mirpurkhas Board Anwar Ahmed Zai and Chairman of Sukkur Board Noor Mohammad Kalhoro were on pensions and holding their respective offices despite completing their tenure of service.

They pointed out that chairmen of the Larkana Education Board and Sindh Text Book Board were the employees of the Sindh University and had never been teachers at the matric or intermediate levels, they added.

The meeting also shed light on quarters responsible for the deterioration of educational system in the province. They regretted that political involvement in educational affairs had violated merit and contributed towards the decline in educational standards. They urged President Pervez Musharraf and Premier Shaukat Aziz to take immediate action in this regard. -PPI
