KARACHI: Local bodies' system lauded

Published February 26, 2005

KARACHI, Feb 25: The city naib nazim, Tariq Hasan, on Wednesday termed the local government system 'revolutionary and historical', saying democracy had been transferred at the grass-roots level through this system , while civic amenities, which had been ignored for decades, were being provided to people.

He was speaking at a gathering of the Pakistan Muslim League (PML), at his residence, regarding the party's reorganization and strategy in context of the upcoming local bodies' polls. He said the PML was striving for success of the devolution plan so that the objectives of resolving public problems and development goals could be achieved through it.

Mr Hasan pointed out that all political parties that were dedicated to working for the public, and desired development and betterment of people, had welcomed the system. Earlier, Additional Secretary General PML Iqbal Dar asked party workers to improve the party's organization and extend the circle of like-minded people. - PPI
