SAHIWAL, May 29: The local municipal committee on Tuesday evening bulldozed hundreds of kiosks and shops in the local Grain Market for the ‘non-payment’ of dues.

The MC conducted the operation despite the affected kiosk owners and shopkeepers had reportedly taken the stay order from court against their ejectment.

Police arrested around a dozen protesters for pelting stones on the MC staff and damaging the bulldozer.

Police also beat up severely press photographer MA Rana and his assistant for taking pictures. The MC staff reportedly snatched their two cameras worth Rs50,000.

The affected shopkeepers said they had been regularly paying their dues to contractors Mukhtar Ahmed, Ghulam Nabi, Muhammad Zubair and Muhammad Ashraf.
