KARACHI, Feb 18: Leader of the opposition in Sindh Assembly, Nisar Khuhro, has demanded that assurance given for subsidy on electricity bills on tube-wells used for agricultural purposes in the province should be implemented without any further delay.

Senior minister Syed Sardar Ahmad had given this assurance in the current financial year's budget. In a letter addressed to Syed Sardar Ahmad, leader of opposition reminded him that during budget speech the minister had declared that Rs100 million had been kept to subsidise electricity bills of private agriculture tube-wells in Sindh.

Mr Khuhro claimed that no such decision had yet been communicated to HESCO which was supplying electricity to tube-wells in Sindh. He reminded the minister that such subsidy would have positive impact on agricultural productivity and urged the minister to ensure that all pending decisions in this regard should be implemented on priority basis.

In another letter to Chief Secretary Aslam Sanjrani, Mr Khuhro asked for taking appropriate steps to make departmental promotion committees functional for all the departments and at all levels to ensure that Sindh government employees may not suffer and wait for indefinite period to get their promotions.
