PIA chalk up first victory

KARACHI, Feb 17: PIA cantered to their first win in the Patron's Trophy Pool 'A' despite a maiden first-class century by Wapda's Faisal Irfan at the National Stadium on Thursday.

Needing 175 in possible 79 overs, PIA reached their target with more than 25 overs to spare while losing only two wickets. Kamran Sajid, the left-handed opener, led the run chase with an unbeaten 74 to follow his 60 in the first innings.

Earlier, Faisal, who resumed at his overnight score of 83, duly completed his century in 103 minutes off just 66 deliveries. His sizzling innings contained 12 fours and four sixes.

Wapda were eventually all out for 364 after starting the final day of the four-day fixture at 338 for eight. Left-arm pace man Najaf Shah clean bowled Faisal for 103 to finish with impressive figures of five for 68 in 31.5 overs.

PIA, who picked up maximum nine points, were also served well by Shoaib Khan. The right-hander made 41 during a second-wicket partnership of 72 with Kamran. He hit seven boundaries. Test reject Faisal Iqbal finished on 26 not out.
