ISLAMABAD, Feb 16: Pakistan and India are likely to play a volleyball series, probably later this year. "I have held talks with volleyball officials of Indian Punjab for playing a series in Pakistan" , said secretary of Pakistan Volleyball Federation (PVF), Maj. (r) Muhammad Afzal, who is also the treasurer of Pakistan Olympic Association (POA).

He was having an informal chat with a group of reporters upon his return from attending a seminar held in New Delhi under the auspices of Olympic Council of Asia.

Afzal said he had talked to Indian Punjab volleyball officials Raj Kumar and Rajan Gupta who both expressed their willingness for their team to pay a return visit to Pakistan after the Pakistanis had played a series in East Punjab before competing in the Punjab Games in Patiala.

"We will have to see when we can play the series against the Indians", Afzal said. "We will be busy in various assignments till the Asian Championship in September".

The matches against the Indians might be staged at Peshawar, Wah Cantt., Islamabad and Lahore, he said. The Indians, he said, might also compete in a volleyball tournament in Pakistan while Pakistanis were to figure in a volleyball competition in Amritsar. -APP
