KANPUR, Feb 13: Security has been beefed up in and around the Green Park Stadium, proposed venue for a one-dayer between India and Pakistan, after a futile attempt by Shiv Sena activists to enter into the stadium on Saturday, police said.

About 50 Shiv Sainiks, who came in a truck, raised slogans before attempting to enter the stadium, but they were denied entry by security persons, police said. They said raids were being conducted at the residence of several Shiv Sena activists through out the city.

After making an attempt to damage the Mohali stadium pitch, Shiv Sena leaders had threatened to damage the pitch at Green Park stadium following which the Regional Sports Officer of the stadium here, Brijendra Singh, had written a letter to SSP Kanpur yesterday demanding proper security. Heavy police force has been deployed around the stadium and all the gates have been closed. -PPI
