PESHAWAR, Feb 13: The Federal government has allocated Rs2,700 million for the construction of 1,020-kilometre-long road projects in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) to link the interior tribal areas with the main roads in the tribal agencies.

These road projects included construction of a 104-km road in Bajaur Agency, a 107-km road in Mohmand Agency, a 103-km road in Khyber and 224 kms of roads in South and North Waziristan agencies, official sources in the Governor's Secretariat, FATA, told APP on Sunday.

Under the directives of the NWFP governor, Lt Gen Syed Ifthikar Hussain Shah, Civil Works and Pakistan Works Department have completed 432-km-long roads in tribal areas while Rs642 million is being spent during the current fiscal year on these projects.

The Pakistan Army is also constructing a 316-km-long road in the tribal areas at a cost of Rs156 million which would open the way of progress to the inaccessible areas of FATA.

When the road projects have been completed they will certainly improve communication facilities in the tribal areas which would also help in accelerating the pace of development there.
