HYDERABAD, Oct 28: All encroachments from the banks of all canals be removed as early as possible to undertake rehabilitation works there without any hindrances.

This was directed by the Sindh Minister for irrigation and power, Syed Ali Mir Shah while presiding over a meeting in connection with a briefing on the Phuleli Rehabilitation Canal System held here the other day.

He was informed that the scheme for rehabilitation of the Phuleli Canal would be completed at a cost of Rs185.323 million and this year an amount of Rs33 million had been allocated while an amount of Rs8.25 million had been released.

The minister was further informed that the scheme would be completed within two years, which would benefit the Phuleli tail-enders.

Syed Ali Mir Shah said that the sewage and gutter water from Paretabad and other areas was badly affecting the Phuleli Canal, which provides water for drinking purposes in the lower areas of Hyderabad and Badin districts.

He directed that water should be distributed judiciously for cultivation of various crops.
