MIRPURKHAS, Feb 11: The district as well as the rest of lower Sindh received rain on Friday, which dropped the mercury further, and turned most of the roads slippery.

Some incidents of motorcyclists slipping on roads were reported from various parts of the district. However, only minor injuries were sustained in the mishaps.

Transportation of sugarcane from fields to mills was affected as movement of loaded tractor trolleys through inundated fields in Jhillori, Mir-ki-Landhi, Balochabad, Shadi Palli, etc., became impossible. Power failures were also reported from various areas.

DADU: Different parts of Johi, Khairpur Nathan Shah, Mehar, Sehwan and Dadu talukas received rain on fourth day on Friday. As a result telephone, electricity and transport systems were disturbed for hours, attendance in schools and government offices remained thin and shops were closed. An irrigation official said that because of rain in its catchment area, Nain Gaj was flowing seven feet water and water level was increasing in the Manchhar Lake.

THATTA: Intermittent rain in Thatta disrupted life, partially submerged roads and intensified old spell. Farmers said that rain would benefit the maturing sunflower crop and the recently harvested sugarcane fields.

KHAIRPUR: Light rain continued here for fourth day, paralysed life and caused telephone and electricity systems to fail.
