KARACHI, Feb 3: Citizens on Thursday witnessed yet another day of traffic jams at various places owing to the movement of the VVIPs on Thursday.

As the traffic police closed Sharea Faisal for VIP movement at intervals, it led to traffic congestion on the adjourning roads.

Saddar witnessed its worst impact, and those travelling in buses, cars and taxis remained stranded. Due to closure of the major city road, from from Metropole Hotel to Karsaz turning, traffic at Nursery, Masjid-i-Roomi, Metropole Hotel, Dr Ziauddin Ahmed Raod, Zaibunnisa Street, Lucky Star, Sharah-i-Quaideen, Mohammad Ali Society, and other areas remained stuck.

The police have already banned parking on either side of Sharea Faisal. A woman said she remained trapped in the deluge of traffic at Nursery for about four hours.

A senior police official, however, defended security arrangements and said that the situation was better than it used to be in the past. He said that the police have been directed to provide maximum possible security to the delegates to the Expo exhibition.

"We restricted the movement of vehicles on certain roads for 15 to 20 minutes. However, the traffic load took its time to get normalized", he added. Protesting over the situation, motorists said that security arrangements for VVIPs on the occasion of Expo belied the government claims that conditions were ripe for investing here without fear.

Even commuters had to suffer on account of these arrangements. They complained that the authorities were even unmindful of the inconvenience caused to the sick people.
