LAHORE: Kite-flying competition

LAHORE, Feb 3: A kite flying championship commenced at the Jilani Park here on Thursday afternoon. The first match of the championship, being held as a part of Basant and Jashn-i-Baharan, took place between the national squash and hockey teams players.

The match ended in a draw as each team could cut two kites of the other. Parks and Horticulture Authority director general Shabbir Ahmad received the teams on arrival.

They were later driven to the match venue in buggies. The second match of the championship will be held between the film artistes on Friday afternoon near the PHA director general's office.

SHOPPING FESTIVAL: The PHA director general will inaugurate the Jashn-i-Lahore Shopping Festival at the Shadman Market here on Friday afternoon. The festival is being organized by the PHA in collaboration with the Qaumi Tajar Ittehad as a part of the Jashn-i-Baharan. New products will be offered for sale at 10 per cent to 50 per cent discount.

GEM, JEWELLERY: The Punjab Tourism Department will organize a gems and jewellery exhibition and shopping festivals for attracting tourists to the city and places of historic and cultural importance.

Tourism Minister Mian Aslam Iqbal stated this at a departmental meeting held here on Thursday to discuss proposals for the promotion of tourism in the province.

He said the department would organize shopping festivals at different business centres and markets with the cooperation of traders' organizations. A 10 per cent concession would be offered in prices on the cards issued by the department.

He said the gems and jewellery exhibition would be organised first of all and jewellers from all over the country would be invited to display their merchandise.
