BADIN, Feb 2: Processions were taken out here on Wednesday to protest against shortage of drinking water in the city and demanded immediate measures to overcome the crisis.

Badin, a city of over 100,000, has been facing a shortage of potable water for six days after Hesco disconnected power supply to the water works run by the taluka municipal administration due to non-payment of Rs3 million dues.

Hundreds of citizens took out processions and raised slogans against the TMA and Hesco. They marched on Quaid-i-Azam Road, Shah Latif Road and Badin-Karachi road. They blocked almost all main roads by staging sit-ins and suspending vehicular traffic for over two hours.

The protesters accused the TMA of adopting an indifferent attitude towards the problem. They said the citizens were facing shortage of water but the TMA was tackling the crisis as an ordinary matter and spending huge amounts on less important schemes.
