HARIPUR, Feb 2: A suspect wanted by police in connection with the murder of a sub-inspector of Haripur police, was killed in an "encounter" with the Hasan Abdal Police on Tuesday evening.

Khurshid Khan, son of Mohammad Ashraf Khan of village Changi Bandi, had shot dead sub-inspector Sufi Safdar Zaman of the Shah Maqsood police checkpoint, after the police raided Khurshid's house on Jan 7.

The suspect had been absconding since then. On a tip-off, the Hasan Abdal police headed by SHO Mohammad Akhlas raided the hideout in village Pathar Garh on Tuesday evening.

Khurshid opened fire on the police party and the police returned the fire, killing the suspect on the spot. His body was handed over to the Haripur police the same evening.

MAN KILLED: A young man was shot dead allegedly by a rival group in village Khidoo in Khanpur here on Wednesday. Police said that Shahid, son of Allah Dad, was on his way home after attending a court hearing when he was attacked allegedly by Iqbal, Abid and Jamshed, sons of Nawab Khan.

He was killed on the spot. The motive behind the killing is stated to be an old enmity between the two families which has, so far, claimed six lives.
