KARACHI, Feb 1: "An organized teamwork can bring wonderful results and SSGC literacy programme is a living proof of that," said Dr Hamida Khuhro at the certificate distribution ceremony held at the SSGC auditorium.

Commending the SSGC for its literacy efforts, she said the role that SSGC was playing in eradicating illiteracy from the country was significant. People in far off localities of the country were really benefiting form SSGC programme.

She said that the SSGC programme had become successful as it also involved local government and education experts. SSGC Managing Director Munawar Baseer said that eradicating illiteracy was a national responsibility.

He said, "The SSGC has realized the importance of literacy and with that in mind we have started a literacy programme for the low-income areas of the country. We have completed the first part of this programme, but spreading literacy is not something that can be stopped after making a few people literate.

Today's programme is the end of one phase and the beginning of second phase of SSGC literacy programme," he said. Through this programme, he said, the SSGC had made 1241 people literate in four districts - Nawabshah, Badin, Lyari, and Ziarat.

In the second phase, he said, Sukkur, Tharparkar, Quetta, Gawadar, Sibbi, and Hub would be added to the list of districts where 2,100 people would be made literate. Highlighting the effects of literacy programme, the SSGC Managing Director said, "Many positive changes have been noted in people who have acquired literacy through SSGC programme. -PPI
