TOBA TEK SINGH, Jan 30: A man was killed while his friend sustained injuries as a train smashed into their car on Sunday at Kot Abadan.

Near Chak 96-JB, the car (LFF-5962) was crossing an unmanned railway crossing when the Lahore-bound Karakoram Express struck against it as a result its driver Akhtar Ali Jat of Nigahbanpura, Faisalabad died on the spot while his friend Javed Iqbal of Madina Town sustained serious injuries and was admitted to the Gojra THQ Hospital.

LOOTED: Dacoits took away three motorcycles and other valuables on Saturday night from different places of the district. Jamil Ahmad Akhtar of Chak 405-JB was on his way to the village. Near Chak 301-GB on the Toba-Shorkot Road, he was intercepted by three gunmen who made off with his bike (LH-3425).

Nasir of Chak 251-GB was going to his village. Near Chak 254-GB, he was stopped at gunpoint by three dacoits who took away his two-wheeler (TSC-6190). In the third incident, five dacoits forced their entry into the house of Javed Jat in Shadman Colony, Gojra. They held hostage all family members and took away his motorcycle, a TV, VCR, gold ornaments and cash worth hundreds of thousands of rupees.

CELL PHONES: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) will not spare mobile phone companies if they failed to improve quality of their services as under contract conditions PTA had authority to fine them up to Rs 350 million.

This was stated here on Saturday night by PTA Director General for Enforcement Brig Zubair Tahir (retired) in Rachna Club. He said though the number of mobile phone users was increasing rapidly, but they were only 2.8 per cent of the population.
