ISLAMABAD, Jan 25: Pakistanis wishing to get married in the United Kingdom (UK) would have to go through new procedures as the British government has amended the laws regulating immigration of foreign nationals with effect from Feb 1.

According to well placed sources, the new the new laws would apply to all categories of religious marriages in the UK except those taking place in the Anglican Church.

"If you are not a visa national and plan to get married at an Anglican Church, you do not need an entry clearance or a certificate of approval to marry. You must contact a member of the clergy at the church where you plan to get married to make the appropriate arrangements.

When you arrive in the UK you should show the immigration officer evidence that you will marry in an Anglican church," said the instructions issued by the British government.

The instructions said: "If you plan to marry in any other form of religious ceremony, you must get a visa or entry clearance first and give notice to marry to a registrar at a designated register office, before the marriage ceremony can take place."
